Freedom to idolize was not enough for a small religious organization in Florida. Thus they decided to have a Koran burning. There has not been a good word uttered over it worldwide. President Barack Obama has joined the pleas for the burning off to get dropped. The controversial Pastor Terry Jones and the Dove World Outreach Center Church are pled with to drop it by others. The church has been told about not only the bigotry in the act, but real world consequences. It will serve as a recruiting tool for terrorists. Should the religious organization fail to heed the pleas and warnings of the entire world, there may be consequences for others.
Resistance to Koran burning off voiced by President Barack Obama
The president has called for burning the Koran to not happen. According to the Los Angeles Times, he asked that Pastor Terry Jones and the Dove World Outreach Center Church think about consequences to others first. The demonstration will only benefit the terrorists we are fighting, and that it will make Americans appear even more bigoted to the world. The president echoed the earlier caution of Gen. David Petraeus, commander of United States forces in Afghanistan. Petraeus also cautioned that it will make Muslim more hostile to US Citizens global, and the Taliban can be given a huge recruiting tool.
Responses
The international reaction to the demonstration has been one of outrage. French officials have condemned the book burning, as outlined by CNN. So have the British. Interpol, the global police force, opposes it as well. Interpol has said it will only increase religious violence worldwide. There was even a pledge to kill more Christians by the Taliban. The Tea Party darling Sarah Palin even weighed in. She asked the religious organization to stop. The Vatican also called for the church to call it off.
Analyzing the opportunities
Terry Jones, the pastor of the small church in Gainesville, Fla., has said the group is evaluating the decision. Obama said that the action is nothing but destructive. He also said he hopes Jones sees the light. Blind hatred is not designed to be part of the American character, just as religious tolerance and freedom is designed to be.
